Who Am I?

Hello!! My name is Alicia!

I am a Registered Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).I am 27 years old, I am not married...yet, I don't have any kiddies...yet, but I have plenty of them in the NICU who I absolutely adore :)

I'm kinda spontaneous so some of my fav things to do are road trips, traveling, skating, bowling, and going to the movies and dinner with my bestie ;) I love nature, fashion, makeup, I also like to crochet even though I haven't done that in a while. I looooove accessories especially earrings and hair accessories!

The purpose of this blog is to spread knowledge and resources for the care of naturally curly hair. I have been doing family and friends hair since I was in high school. No i'm not a licensed cosmetologist (not yet anyway!) but my love for curly hair has prompted me to do lots of research on how to care for it. This blog also serves to spread insight on some of my fav topics and interests such as inspiration/faith, nature, fashion, makeup, crafts, eating healthy and exercise (which I admit I don't do enough of but we are in this journey together and it will happen...eventually, lol)

How long have I been natural??

I have been natural since 2004, so this year will make 8 years!! WOW!! Doesn't seem like it's been that long. I have made countless mistakes in those 8 years because I didn't have a clue how to properly take care of my natural hair. So April 2004 was my last relaxer:

My hair was also bleached when I was getting relaxers so you can only imagine the damage my hair was enduring! Kinda makes me cringe when i think about it :} Anyway, I'm thankful that I know what I know about the damaging effects of relaxer on these delicate strands.

My natural hair journey has been a rough one for the past 8 years. I transitioned for about 2 years before finally cutting all of my relaxed ends off. For those of you curly chicks who are wondering whether to make the big chop, from my experience, instead of transitioning for that long I wish I would have big chopped a lot sooner while my hair was a little shorter so... (1) I could have seen what I would have looked like with short hair (always wanted to do that) and (2) so I could enjoy each phase of my hair growth from the short to the awkward in-between stage to where I am now.

Ok so continuing on with the story of my hair journey... last relaxer was April 2004, transitioned for 2 years, finally did the chop so at that point I had a pretty nice length of new growth I would say that it was about 4-5 inches.

This picture is from 2006 when I did a twist out, not too long after I did the chop...ok so this looks like a little more than 5 inches but the front/crown of my head grows much faster than the back

Now so you are thinking, ok she's been natural for 8 years so she must have waist length hair right? WRONG!!!! Boy I wish! Because of all the bad decisions that I made during those years, my hair suffered tremendously! I would rip through my hair with combs and brushes to detangle. I abused heat so I would blow dry excessively, I would hot comb my hair when I wanted it straight and then go back through it with the flat iron...YES I said HOT COMB. Sometimes I would even hot comb it while it was still wet {insert screaming noises here} because I was too lazy to wait for it to dry. So you guessed it MAJOR HEAT DAMAGE!!!!!! I eventually had to end up cutting some of it off. I also LOVED to wear it in different styles that I did myself so I was constantly in my hair...ALL THE TIME!!! And I had the nerve to wonder after 8 years why I didn't have waist length hair!! Hahahahaha! Funny AINT it!

The three above pics are recent pics of my hair flat ironed (didn't do it my self this time, ha! I went to the salon) So yes I have shoulder length hair...and growing! I think shoulder length is similar to that in-between stage when coming from TWA (teeney weeney afro) to about mid ear length because it seems like you are STUCK in that stage for like EVER!! I promise it seems like I have been shoulder length for 4 years, LOL!

So it wasn't until about September of 2011 that I had a light bulb moment and started my research on how to properly take care of my hair with the help of my YouTube favs:

And my fav blogging sites:

I owe mega thanks to all of these ladies for helping me continue my natural hair journey the RIGHT WAY!

My Blog Name:

God's Precious Earth

Why I chose this name you say??

Simple reason, because God is the reason why I am here, He is the reason I live, breathe, who I am and why i came into existence. I LOVE God with all of my heart and soul and the best thing He could have ever done for me was to send His only son Jesus Christ to die for me when I didn't deserve it just because He LOVED me!! So YES I AM A BELIEVER OF JESUS CHRIST!! :)

The Precious Earth part comes from my love for God's creation. Nature is so amazing and beautiful to me and it is proof just how amazing God is! If we just use the resources that God has given us on this precious Earth our bodies would be so much happier.

This is my first blog so I thank you for viewing, and being supportive :)

Peace and precious blessings,
~Licia
